Consultation on repealing sections of the Equality Act

On 15th May the Government Equalities office announced a consultation on repealing sections of the Equality Act.

Northamptonshire Rights and Equality Council have developed a site to assist you in making representations on proposed changes which include the repealing of protect from third party harassment, the repealing of the wider powers of tribunals, and the withdrawal of use of equality questionnaires. The aim of this research is to explore the barriers that face parents when accessing pre-school provision for their children in Leicester. Many parents of disabled children feel very strongly about the benefits that childcare can have both for themselves and their disabled children – particularly socially and developmentally. However, the wrong childcare situation can have negative consequences and this is very much influenced by the experience and confidence of the workers at a setting. A common theme among all parents consulted was the perception that accessing information and places is a constant battle and struggle.

The key objectives:

• use of childcare for their disabled children and the factors that influence this experiences and perceptions of childcare
• gaps and needs in childcare provision for disabled children
• the cost of childcare for disabled children
• working and childcare for disabled children
