Diversity in Diction - Equality in Action: A Guide to the Appropriate Use of Language

Summary: 'If we are to demonstrate respect, understanding and fairness, tackle discrimination and exclusion, we need to ensure that the language we use is consistent with those intentions'.

This report looks at what language we should and shouldn't use, to ensure we are inclusive of everybody.

It is designed to, 'identify terminology that is broadly acceptable and which promotes best practice and professionalism. The information in this guide is intended to help avoid the unintentional offence caused by unthinking use of language and to improve relationships across the whole of our communities.'
