Equlity and Human Rights Commission: Business plan 2011-12

Summary: This is the commission's business plan for 2011-12. It focuses on making best use of reduced resources and seeks to balance the commission’s formal regulatory work.

2011/12 Business Plan

We are pleased to announce the publication of our Business Plan for 2011/12. This year's plan focuses on fewer but higher impact activities to make best use of our reduced resources. It has been informed by objectives within the 2009/12 strategic plan, evidence from the triennial review, legislative requirements and our existing commitments such as the follow-up to previous inquiries and assessments.

More about the plan

We have already started to develop our new strategic plan for 2012/15 and to reform ourselves to become a significantly leaner, more effective organisation. The Business Plan has been developed with this in mind. Read an introduction to the plan from our interim Chief Executive.

Our programme of work for 2011/12 is focused on the following areas:

  • Exercising our statutory powers and regulatory responsibilities, which includes:
    • making the Equality Act easier to embrace for employers and service providers
    • improving equality and human rights outcomes by helping individuals and raising organisational standards
    • promoting human rights
  • Building the evidence base for effective regulation
  • Employment: A fair and equal recovery
  • Reforming the Commission to be more efficient and effective
