EDF Views on the Future of Equality

Summary: In August 2010, Jonathan Rees, Director General of the Government Equality Office, wrote to Sarah Spencer, Chair of the Equality and Diversity Forum (EDF) asking the Forum

EDF’s response included:

  • the importance of mainstreaming equality across all areas of policy
  • the role of equality impact assessments in relation to spending reductions
  • the completion of work on the Equality Act
  • work on using procurement to advance equality of opportunity
  • the opportunities presented by the public sector equality duty
  • the important role of equality organisations in the voluntary and community sector and concerns about the impact that spending reductions will have on the sector’s capacity
