DWP Unveils Five-Year Business Plan

Summary: The Department for Work and Pensions has unveiled its five-year business plan for 2011 to 2015, pledging to achieve disability equality and improve job opportunities for disabled people facing the greatest barriers to employment.

It intends to do this through Work Choice training and other forms of support, while also reforming the Access to Work programme so disabled people can apply for positions where funding has already been secured for any reasonable adjustments and equipment they may need.

Additionally, the body has announced it will be providing extra support for disabled people who wish to become councillors, MPs and other elected officials.

Launching the strategy, David Cameron said: "Instead of bureaucratic accountability to the government machine, these business plans bring in a new system of democratic accountability - accountability to the people."

Other ideas include promoting self-employment to jobless people and helping connect those out of work with volunteering opportunities in their local regions.ADNFCR-1716-ID-800228595-ADNFCR
