Charter to end homophobia and transphobia in sport

Summary: On the 14th March, the Lawn Tennis Association, the Football Association, Rugby League, Rugby Union and the English Cricket Board became founding signatories to the government's charter to end homophobia and transphobia in sport.

By signing the charter these organisations have committed to tackle all forms of homophobic and transphobic abuse or discrimination.

The charter is just the first step and what will follow is a range of activities that looks to make this commitment a reality.

A Facebook page “I love sport but hate homophobia and transphobia” has been set up, where you can also show your support for the charter.

Tackling Homophobia and Transphobia in Sport:

The Charter for Action

We believe that everyone should be able to participate in and enjoy sport – whoever they are and whatever their background.

We believe that sport is about fairness and equality, respect and dignity. Sport teaches individuals how to strive and succeed, how to cope with success and disappointment, and brings people together with a common goal.

We are committed to making these values a reality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.   We will work together, and individually, to rid sport of homophobia and transphobia.

We will make sport a welcome place for everyone – for those participating in sport, those will work with all these groups to ensure they have a voice, and to challenge unacceptable behaviour.

Please find the Charter attached, download, sign, distribute to your members, join the facebook group – get the message out and sign!
