Charities 'ignored' in riot debate - NCVO

Summary: Charitable organisations working in areas affected by the riots have not been sufficiently consulted in debates and discussions on how to tackle their aftermath, a new report by NCVO says.

The report, issued following a summit of more than 100 charities in September organised by NCVO, detailed the work done by charities in local communities following the riots and urged government to avoid "inflammatory" language such as "Broken Britain", Third Sector magazine said.

An Office for Civil Society (OCS) spokesperson told Third Sector the government acknowledged the important role played by charities and added it would consider the report's findings "carefully".
