Transgender online survey recieved overwhelming response

Date: 19/5/2011
Summary: On 14th March the Government launched Working for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Equality: Moving Forward which sets out the actions Government is taking to tackle LGB&T inequality, including the development of the first ever cross Government transgender equality action plan.

To ensure that the action plan addresses the needs of trans people, the Government Equalities Office is disseminating regular 'e-bulletins' to the trans community giving news and updates on progress. The first e-bulletin was launched in April 2011 and included an online survey, to be completed by 6 May, asking transgender people to tell us the areas they would like us to concentrate on, how they would like us to communicate with them and to contribute their views and ideas.   We will use the findings of the first survey to shape the Government transgender equality action plan and formulate initial Government commitments.

The survey received over 1,100 responses - a very welcome response from the trans community.

The next E-Bulletins and surveys will focus on specific themes, depending on the results of this survey and feedback from meetings with the trans community.
