Regional Equality & Diversity Partnership

The events will look at how a better understanding of equality and cohesion can improve efficiency, help local councils understand their communities better and deliver appropriate, high quality services.

The first event will take place in on July 14^th, in Nottingham, and will focus on Equality Mapping/ Understanding your Communities: addressing the strategic challenges, the practical challenges, and building the right relationships. There will be an opportunity to hear more about the Equality Act, and its implications for local government. Delegates will have the chance to hear about good practice around:

·        Using a range of techniques to identify key equality gaps

·        Developing protocols for equality mapping with voluntary and community sector, and other statutory partners

·        Managing data effectively at a corporate level

·        Effectively profiling communities using soft and hard data, and monitoring community relations

In order to maximise the value of these events, we will be running a number of on line support activities on the IDeA’s Equality Community of Practice (CoP). The aim of these activities will be to encourage in depth dialogue in the lead up to the events, to support discussions during the event, and share the learning as widely as possible. It is hoped that these events, and the ongoing dialogue around them, will form a hub for our support activities; building competence and confidence around equality work across the sector.
