Demonstration against Northamptonshire County Council Public Services Cuts - 24th February
Summary: There will be a rally and demonstration, in protest of the £80m that Northamptonshire County Council wants to cut from public services in 2011-12.
The event will take place on Thursday 24th February, at 1pm outside County Hall in Northampton
Proposed cuts include:-
- 900 county council staff redundancies – Less staff to fix pot holes, assess clients for long-term care needs, and support with emergency short-term needs…this will cause delays and longer waiting lists!
- Bus Grants – for rural bus services, and Sunday and evening buses across town, to be axed!
- Street lights – every other street light to be switched off, which is a health and safety hazard especially for the vulnerable
- Rape and Domestic Violence Services – 24% cut in funding to support those who have been raped or suffered sexual abuse
- Advice centres – under threat of closure, or losing staff and volunteers
- Tackling anti-social behaviour – projects to go that successfully prevent anti-social behaviour and teenage pregnancy
- Libraries – small libraries and mobile van routes under threat
'Please join thousands of trade union members, voluntary organisations and groups, and individual members of the public on Thursday 24th February at 1pm to protest against these unfair and unnecessary cuts.'
There will be banners and placards for you to hold, or you can bring your own.
