'Can you become a foster family?' Event - 17th February

Date: 4/2/2011
Summary: At Leicester Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Centre, there will be a short presentation from one of our staff and a foster carer.

Thursday 17th February 2011

6.30pm – 8.30pm

Leicester Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Centre

15 Wellington Street

Leicester LE1 6HH

(Refreshments provided)

There will be a short presentation from one of our staff and a foster carer. After this there will be time for everyone to ask questions and discuss how fostering might fit into their lives. You can always speak to us privately after the event or ring us at another time if you prefer.

This year over 350 children will need to live with foster families in Leicester. For some this will be a short stay of weeks or months. For others it will be the start of a new life with a permanent family. Many of these children will have suffered abuse or neglect before coming into care. Gaining their trust and acceptance will not be easy.

To become a carer you have to be aged over 25. You can be single or part of a couple and you can own or rent your home. It doesn’t matter whether or not you have children of your own, but you must have experience of caring for children. You will need enough space and time to be able to care for a child; along with patience, commitment and a sense of humour.

Our carers receive excellent training, support and payments. But the main reward carers tell us about is their sense of fulfilment at seeing what a big difference they are making to a child’s life.

Please book your place on the 17th February by ringing 0116 299 5810 and asking for Fiona. Or, you can email  The Leicester Fostering and Adoption Centre
